The Bangladesh part shooting of the Indo-Bangladesh joint venture film ‘Moner Manush’ will begin at Tangua Haor in Sunamgonj on January 5.

Based on Sunil Gangopadhyay’s novel, the film on Fakir Lalan Shah’s philosophy and the attitude of the society towards baul community is being directed by noted Indian director Goutam Ghose.

Indian actor Prosenjit Chatterjee is playing the role of Lalan Fakir and the leading female role is being played by Paoli Dam, the girl from Golf Road, Calcutta who came into prominence with her 2009 Bengali film Kalbela.

Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury is playing the role of baul called Kalu Mirza and Champa the role of Lalon’s mother. Raisul Islam Asad is playing Shiraz Shai’s character in the film.

‘Nearly fifty percent shooting has been done in India. The shooting in Bangladesh will take place in different places including on the banks of the Padma and the Jamuna, and in the marshlands of Sunamgonj,’ Raisul Islam Asad.

Describing his role in the film, Chanchal Chowdhury said, ‘Being oppressed by the high-ups in the society, I take shelter in a jungle. Lalon also joins me and we become friends. Later, other bauls join us and a group is formed under my leadership.’

Bangladeshi producer Habibur Rehman Khan and Kolkata producer Goutam Kundu are jointly making the film, sources said. ‘Khan’s production house Ashirbad Chalchitra had also produced Ritwik Ghatak’s ‘Titas Ekti Nadir Naam’ in 1973 and Gautam’s ‘Padma Nadir Majhi’ in 1993.
