Devdas Bangla Movie by Bulbul Ahmed Sakib and Moushumi



The curtain-raiser to the 12th adaptation of Devdas was held Sunday noon at the city’s Sheraton Hotel. The movie produced by Impress Telefilm Ltd is a remake of its first Bangladeshi adaptation premiered in 1982 by the same director Chashi Nazrul Islam.
Faridur Reza Sagor, managing director of Impress said, ‘we [Impress Telefilm Ltd] are making our 50th movie. This is the 12th adaptation of the movie Devdas.’
The story written by prolific novelist Sharat Chandra Chattapadhyay was made into motion pictures eleven times around the subcontinent before the latest production. Sagor says, this time the story however, has been depicted differently.
A number of renowned celebrities expressed their interest to perform in the movie that eventually cast Sakib Khan as Devdas, Shahiduzzaman Selim as Chunni Babu, Apu Biswas in the role of Parbat and Mousumi as Chandramukhi.
Chashi Nazrul Islam, the director of the movie along with casts of the new movie Sakib Khan, Mousumi, Shahiduzzaman Selim and Apu Biswas were present on the occasion. Some of the footages of Devdas produced earlier by different directors were shown to the audience at the event.
‘This Devdas is not like that of [Sanjay Leela] Bhansali,’ said Chashi who is optimistic about the movie’s success through wide response of the audience.
Bulbul Ahmed who first played the role of Devdas in its Bangladeshi adaptation and was highly praised for his role was also present on the occasion. He said, ‘what will I say about this Devdas! I am jealous as the director is making the movie second time.’
